
Muhammad Dhafi Iskandar, SE., M.Sc., DBA, a lecturer from Universitas Esa Unggul, was among the Indonesian representatives at an international forum titled “Reforming Civil Law in the Age of Technology”, held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at the Institute for European Studies (IEE), Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), Belgium.
The forum was organized on behalf of the Association of Civil Law Lecturers of Indonesia (APHK), a key partner of the Indonesian Association of Law School Leaders (INALS). It aimed to explore new approaches to civil law reform amidst rapid technological advancement and global social transformation.
Muhammad Dhafi Iskandar was entrusted with coordinating and delivering the forum’s closing remarks. He emphasized how the transformative ideas presented during the discussions would help shape the future of civil law reform in Indonesia and beyond.
The forum also featured prominent legal experts from Europe, including Prof. Pierre Klein (Dean of the Faculty of Law and Criminology at ULB), Jean-Louis Moortgat (International Senior Officer – Asia), Françoise Auvray (KU Leuven/ULB), Michèle Grégoire (practitioner before the Belgian Supreme Court), and Prof. Rafaël Jafferali (ULB/KU Leuven), who discussed important issues such as the modernization of the legal system, the codification of general principles, the balance between tradition and innovation, and the international influence on civil law reform.
The insights gathered from the forum have been compiled into a draft to be submitted to relevant ministries and legislators in Indonesia for consideration in the development of a new Civil Code Bill. This forum highlights the strong commitment of the Indonesian academic community to advancing national legal reform through a globally informed, multidisciplinary approach.
